Tutoring Expectations

What should you expect from working with me over the summer?

That depends on your goals. If your ambition is to complete a course such as Geometry or Physics, we can make an rigorous plan with lots of hours. If you need some remedial work in Algebra or Trigonometry, we can pace our work appropriately and lift your confidence. If you’re preparing for a standardized test, we can devote some time to skills and some time to test-taking strategies. If you'd like help crafting college application essays, we can brainstorm, draft, and polish over several weeks to ensure the essays capture you meaningfully.

Will you have to work between sessions?

If you’re aiming to complete a course, prepare for a standardized test, or complete college essays, definitely expect homework. Regardless, I can work around your goals and schedule. Typically, even 30 minutes of practice or editing between meetings will amplify our effort together.

What does a session with me feel like?

My students describe me as a good listener, knowledgeable, supportive, and kind. I work to ascertain the obstacles between you and mastery. I then try to leverage your intuition and reasoning so that the content, whether math or physics or clear writing, makes sense to you. Then we practice skills and communication together before agreeing on an appropriate assignment for our next meeting. I also like to play games and listen to music. I try to create a relaxed, yet focused environment where learning can feel natural and comfortable.
